The paramotor wing with Soft-Reflex (DGAC)

SPEEDMAX 2 – Pure Powered Performance

Impressive performance, a high level of stability, balanced handling: the SPEEDMAX 2 is aimed at pilots who are looking for an efficient paramotor wing that is fun to fly. The wing combines high speed with easy launch characteristics and forgiving flight behaviour.

Development and Progress. The excellent performance, high degree of passive safety and the outstanding handling of the MENTOR series were the perfect prerequisites for the design of a paramotor wing. A soft-reflex profile, a trimmer system optimised for motorised flying and a flatter arc  guarantee paramotor flying pleasure of the highest level.

Stay up longer. The MENTOR series is synonymous with outstanding cross-country performance. The SPEEDMAX 2 profits from these characteristics: surprisingly little thrust is needed to keep the wing up. If the trimmers are released, the wing impresses with a high top speed whilst maintaining excellent directional stability.

Simply flying. Thanks to its good inflation characteristics, the SPEEDMAX 2 is easy to launch, even in nil-wind. In combination with the agile handling and the good flare attributes, this results in a wing that is very easy to manage. The combi-riser system with two attachment points proves our aspiration for comfort and simplicity.

Requirements

The SPEEDMAX 2 is a high-performance paramotor wing, which is not suitable for beginners. The wing is designed for recreational and advanced pilots.Soft-Reflex

A soft-reflex profile allows the pilot to adjust the profile setting of the wing. With the trimmers released, the reflexed trailing edge maintains the stability of the wing.

Closing the trimmers reduces the reflex in the trailing edge and the profile is equal to a standard paraglider. This brings advantages to the launch and extreme flight behaviour as well as the handling.

Inovation

Our anti-wrinkle treatment

Double 3D Shaping could be called an anti-wrinkle treatment for the nose of the wing: with two seams across the entire span of the top sail, we reduce the number of creases which are a consequence of the curvature over two axes.  Two axes, because the sail cloth has to align to the profile form and the ballooning also determines a radius which the cloth also has to follow.

It is as if trying to fold a piece of paper smoothly around a ball. Impossible without a few wrinkles.

Double 3D Shaping divides the sections to be folded into smaller subsections. This allows us to get close to achieving the ideal crease-free form. The result of Double 3D Shaping: the creases on the profile nose are clearly reduced and this leads to better performance.

Smart Cells

Intelligent cells

Why build all the cells the same when the load on them is different? Irregular loading leads to warping and deforming during flight and this adversely affects the performance of the wing.

Smart Cells counteract these mechanical strength problems. In NOVA paragliders that have been constructed using Smart Cells the cell widths have been adapted to the load – basically, intelligent cells. Thanks to this feature the paragliders fitted with SmartCells fly more calmly, feel more solid and glide better. Smart Cells give you a tangible benefit.

Easy Packinig Keep it simple!

Simplicity is our motto. NOVA paragliders can be stored in a concertina bag, but it is not essential (we haven’t found that concertina bags prolong the life of the wing). If in a hurry, they can be stuffed into the inner bag (but please don’t store them like this in the long-term!).

We use the conventional packing method for our own wings: lay the wing flat with lines on top and then fold towards the middle. Then fold, rather than roll, the glider towards the nose as this improves the comfort when carrying it in the glider bag. This is possible due to our conservative use of rods – they are only used in the profile nose.

To us, paragliding means freedom. And freedom means not having to deal with complicated equipment. Keep it simple!

Genuine 3 liner Less is more

Nearly all our paragliders are based on the concept of a three-liner. Our idea of a three-liner with less line length allows us to construct wings with very good performance and a high degree of passive safety. The way we have conceptualised the lines has made it possible to manufacture wings which are collapse resistant; but when they do collapse, the collapsed area is generally less extensive. This significantly improves the wing’s extreme flight behaviour.

Low Aspect Ratio

More compact. The aspect ratio of a glider is not the only factor in passive safety, but still a very important one. A high aspect ratio favours cravats after asymmetric collapses, generally shortens brake travel and normally makes wings more difficult to fly. Nova’s analytical tools permit us to build performance wings even with a low or moderate aspect ratio.
