About-Us
Mid Wales Paragliding Centre (BHPA School 363)
Mid Wales Paragliding Centre is a paragliding school in Wales and a BHPA-registered school (No. 363). We deliver paragliding and paramotoring experiences and training. In addition, we run progression trips in the UK and abroad. Established in 2001, we help beginners take their first flight, and we also support qualified pilots with structured coaching.
We are based near Llanon in Ceredigion, between Aberystwyth and Aberaeron. Because we have coastal and mountain access, we can choose the right site for the day. So you spend more time learning and flying.
What we offer
- Tandem Flights – a safe, unforgettable first step into free flight.
- Fun Days / Taster Days – an immersive introduction to the sport, so you can see what training feels like before committing further.

What makes our paragliding school in Wales different
1) BHPA standards and professional coaching
As a paragliding school in Wales and a BHPA school, we follow an established training framework. So you build skill step-by-step, with clear goals and consistent instruction. In addition, we prioritise safe decision-making from day one.
2) A location that works harder for your flying
Our base near the Ceredigion coast gives quick access inland to the Cambrian Mountains. As a result, we have options across wind directions and conditions. Therefore, training stays more consistent and more productive.
3) Experience you can feel on launch day
Our Chief Flying Instructor, Steve Griffiths, brings decades of flying and coaching experience. For example, we teach advanced glider control and practical progression pathways. This means both new and experienced pilots develop faster and more confidently.
4) One home for the whole journey
Many schools focus on only one part of the sport. However, we support the full arc. Start with a tandem flight, then move into BHPA training, and next progress into advanced development and trips.
5) A community, not just a booking
You are not just booking a day out. Instead, you are joining a community of pilots who share advice and build skills together. As a result, learning continues long after the first hill.
Safety and equipment
We take a safety-first approach. First, we explain the plan for the day in a clear briefing. Then, we choose a suitable site for the conditions and your level. Also, we use certified equipment that is checked and maintained, so you can focus on learning.
Paragliding and paramotoring are air sports. So, good judgement and personal responsibility matter. However, you are not doing it alone. Instead, we help you build safe habits from day one, and we keep reinforcing them as you progress.
BHPA Standards
As a BHPA registered school, we follow recognised training standards. This means you learn step-by-step, with clear goals at each stage. To find out more, visit the British Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association (BHPA) website for training and safety information.
In addition, we support inclusive flying through Flyability. So, if you have access needs, please contact us and we will advise you
