Morocco paragliding course Safety is paramount

Paragliding is aviation. Risk cannot be eliminated, but it can be managed through standards, discipline and decision-making.

What we control — and do control — is the system:

  • Conservative weather and site selection aligned to your stage

  • Disciplined launch and landing routines, with clear ground organisation

  • Progressive task selection with safety margins maintained

  • Calm, direct coaching designed to reduce noise and build judgement

  • Fatigue-aware pacing (breaks and resets are part of the plan)

If conditions aren’t right, we change the plan. If you’re ready, we move you forward.

Why South Morocco for Morocco paragliding course

South Morocco is a highly productive setting for a Morocco paragliding course, especially when UK weather is limiting.
The combination of coastal airflow, ridge lift and open terrain often allows the fundamentals to be practised more frequently and more consistently — which is how real skill and confidence are built.

What that means for your training

  • More flyable windows than a typical UK winter/spring cycle

  • Conditions that often support wing control, launch discipline and stable approaches

  • Terrain that enables structured progression while maintaining safety margins

  • A professional rhythm: brief properly, train with purpose, debrief properly — every day

We have been running Morocco trips twice per year since 2007, and we apply the same standards abroad as we do at home.

Who this programme is for

This Morocco paragliding course suits beginners and UK students looking for a structured, safety-led training block.

  • Are a complete beginner and want a safe, structured route through EP and into CP development

  • Started training in the UK and want a dependable environment to consolidate

  • Value professionalism, clear standards and sound decision-making

  • Want to return home not just “qualified”, but confident in your basics

If you’re unsure whether this programme is the right fit, contact us first. We will advise honestly.

What you can realistically achieve in two weeks

Over 14 days we work towards:

  • BHPA Elementary Pilot (EP) as the first milestone

  • Club Pilot (CP – Novice, Hill) task development — and completion where appropriate

Progress depends on conditions and individual readiness. We do not promise outcomes to a calendar, and we never compromise safety or sign off early. What we do promise is structured coaching, high standards, and an environment that supports efficient progression.

Morocco paragliding course: a typical training day.

A well-run training day feels calm, organised and unhurried — and it feels exciting because progress is clear.

Typical flow

  • Morning briefing: weather overview, site choice, objectives, and the safety boundaries for your stage

  • Set-up and checks: disciplined routines, layout, and a clear launch/landing system

  • Training blocks: focused sessions (ground handling, hops, flights, soaring tasks) with immediate coaching

  • Lunch and reset: fatigue management is part of safety

  • Afternoon progression: repetition, consolidation, and confidence-building airtime when appropriate

  • Debrief: what went well, what to refine, and the next logical step for tomorrow

Morocco paragliding course training pathway: EP then CP (Hill)

EP first, then CP (Hill)

Elementary Pilot (EP): fundamentals that make flying methodical

EP is where good habits are built: consistent routines, clean technique, and a clear understanding of what to do next.

You’ll cover

  • Ground school: equipment, safe routines, site assessment and weather awareness

  • Ground handling: inflations, canopy control, directional control, safe aborts, wing management after landing

  • First hops and early flights: take-off technique, speed control, stable approaches, accurate flare timing

  • Intro flight exercises: straight flights and gentle turns with disciplined lookout

  • EP theory and exam prep: meteorology, principles of flight, rules of the air, and airmanship

Club Pilot (CP – Novice, Hill): soaring skill with sound judgement

CP is about becoming a capable novice pilot — someone who can soar, plan and operate safely around others. You move from “doing flights” to truly flying with purpose.

You’ll cover

  • Pre-soaring: deeper airflow and site assessment, ridge procedures, flight planning with options

  • Soaring and flying with others: spacing, etiquette, workload management, disciplined lookout

  • Improving skills: stronger ground handling, refined launches/landings, speed and energy management

  • Instability and emergencies: avoidance-first thinking, calm responses, rapid descent techniques, reserve awareness

  • CP theory and exams: CP-level meteorology, principles of flight, rules of the air/air law, general airmanship and hill-environment knowledge

Instruction standards: calm, direct — and a great atmosphere

We run training professionally, but never coldly. You’ll get high standards, a supportive group dynamic, and coaching that is clear and effective.

You can expect

  • Clear briefings and debriefings every day

  • Defined objectives so you always know what you’re working on

  • Calm instruction that reduces noise and builds confidence through competence

  • A small-group environment where people progress well without lowering standards

Venue and base

We operate across several coastal sites in South Morocco, including a purpose-built launch area with approximately 800 ft of ridge-soaring potential and terrain suited to progressive training.

Your accommodation base is Mirleft, at the Abertih Hotel — typically around 20 minutes from the primary sites. Expect a straightforward rhythm: train, debrief, eat well, recover.

What to bring

We provide all specialist training equipment. You’ll typically bring:

  • Sturdy boots with ankle support

  • Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing and gloves

  • Water, snacks, and sun protection

  • A coachable mindset and willingness to practise the fundamentals

You’ll receive a full kit and logistics brief after booking.

Safety statement

Paragliding is aviation. Risk cannot be eliminated, and serious injury or death can occur even with training and proper equipment.

What we control — and do control — is the system: conservative conditions assessment, disciplined site management, progressive exercises and calm instruction that prioritises judgement. If conditions aren’t right, we change the plan. If you’re ready, we move you forward.

Who this programme is not for

This programme is not the right fit if you:

  • Want to be pushed to fly in marginal conditions, or prioritise airtime over judgement

  • Prefer large groups or informal instruction

  • Are looking for a “flying holiday” rather than structured training with clear standards

We keep the environment professional and safety-led. If that is what you want, you will get excellent value from these two weeks.

South Morocco
We at Mid Wales Paragliding Centre really enjoy this, our now legendary venue for both paragliding training and Pilot development We have been going to the same place 2 times a year since 2007 and have great local knowledge. The weather is much more reliable than anywhere in Europe more so than Spain at this time of year and we have never flown less than 10 days out of 14 on a trip. We use several sites along the coast including a purpose built 800 foot take off area situated a mile inland from the South Moroccan Atlantic coast about 30 minutes south of the old, fortified town of Tiznet. Most of the ridges boast extensive flat tops ideal for those elusive top landings! Look out from the ridge and you will see flat land reaching towards the sand dunes on the coast which provide a safe and ideal environment for the low airtime student.

The area,
situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara Desert, is totally unspoiled by tourism (unlike the North of Morocco). If you like Sun, sea and consistent flying conditions with lots of peace and quiet this must be one of the most chilled locations you will find. If it's discos and night life that you crave then it won't be for you!

Our base is the Abertih Hotel in the nearby village of Mirleft, about twenty minutes away from the main site. Mirleft is a charming little town with various small shops and restaurants. Although not a drinking culture, alcohol is available when asked for. The pace of life is refreshingly slow, and the local people are extremely hospitable and very friendly. One my close friends and an old team guide has been living there for the last 15 years.

Accommodation
The accommodation will be at the Abertih Hotel in Mirleft. Built in the local Moorish style this charming family run guest house has proven itself to be a real favorite with all who have stayed there. Damien the owner is the man to consult on just about everything in the area! He is a local pilot, and he speaks fluent English. There are several restaurants to choose from in the area, but the Abertih is most popular because of its legendary 'tagines'. Have a look at Damien’s place on this link: http://www.abertih.com

Transport
The course includes all transport. This includes airport transfers from Agadir which is about 2 hours away. (Provided you arrive at the recommended times). If you are not at the airport at the transfer times a taxi can be arranged for you—they cost typically about £45 each way. We also provide your transport to take off.

Non-Flyers
Partners and non-flyers are welcome on this trip, but it should be emphasized that although tourism is beginning here and there are all the basic facilities available, it is not a resort as such. If your partner wants some peace and quiet in an exotic and friendly location in lovely weather, then this could be just the place! You can walk literally for miles along deserted beaches meeting only the odd fisherman and the seagulls! It is also a great opportunity to see Moroccan life and experience the culture of the country in a totally unspoiled way. Other activities in the area are Horse riding, quad biking, surfing, fishing and walking.

Summary
Our Moroccan trip has great potential for all levels of student as well as those wishing to develop their skills and airtime. It is a place where the weather seems consistently good throughout our winter when the opportunity to fly at home will be very limited. The terrain, a long ridge with flat lands reaching out to the coast a mile away is not unlike the places you may fly at home but with the benefits of smooth sea breezes and gentle thermals.

Stuff to Bring and a Few Last-Minute Details
Travel Insurance that includes paragliding and repatriation is essential for this trip. It's not too expensive and gives you a good level of cover should you be unlucky enough to have to use it. The cost is around £50 for a 2-week trip or around £200 for the year. I recommend JS insurance https://www.jsinsurance.co.uk/ or better still, give them a call on 0800 043 0020 and mention Steve at Mid Wales Paragliding Centre recommended them, and they will provide the cover you will need.

Joining the BHPA
If you are doing the EP/CP course, then you will need to join the BHPA British Hangliding and Paragliding Association on day one of the course. We have all the documentation with us or if you prefer you can call them direct before we leave and do it yourself, Explain you are starting a beginner course with Mid Wales Paragliding Centre https://www.bhpa.co.uk/ Telephone: 0116 289 4316, Email: office@bhpa.co.uk You will need to take out a year membership with them and this will include, 12 monthly issues of the magazine and it also provides 12 months third party only insurance. (not suitable for trips abroad as there is no personal medical cover). The annual cost is £174. This is not included in the course fees.

It’s hot in Morocco.
After all it is Africa! It’s about the same latitude as the Canary Islands. So, you don’t need to bring a lot with you. As weight limits on air travel are more limited these days (check yours out with your airline), it’s best to wear your boots on the plane. Take a fleece or jumper and long trousers. The terrain, as in most hot places, can be quite rough underfoot so slipping at take-off can be different than at home—you may roll over on a cactus rather than nice smooth grass! Personally, I take as little as possible because I like the local stuff, which is very cheap, so I buy over there to bring home. The locals are short of things like fleeces, so I usually take some of my old ones and do a bit of bartering! Check Habibe’s shop across from the Abertih, he’s very open to a bit of wheeling and dealing over a cup of Moroccan green tea! You will also need the usual common-sense things—Sun Cream, hat, after sun, shades, etc. You will need a towel (they are not provided) but you can buy one in Mirleft.

Local currency
is the Dirham which you can only get in Morocco but Euros are fine. You can change your Euros into Dirham’s from cash machines or with Damien at the hotel. Damien is the man to arrange things for you whether it is a hire car or a local house! Everything you are likely to need will probably be available locally.
