SOMNIUM – for cross-country pilots with dreams
The SOMNIUM offers everything cross-country pilots are looking for: comfort, an aerodynamic seating position with little drag and thanks to Hybrid Protection, an impressive degree of passive safety. At only 3.7 kilograms (size S), the walk to take-off is made a lot easier.
More safety. The SOMNIUM is fitted with an innovative Hybrid Protector. When the harness is taken out of the bag the foam begins to expand. Once in the air, the foam protection is augmented by an airbag. This cushion of air not only supports the pelvic area – but protects the whole back. In its class, the SOMNIUM offers a unique level of passive safety.
More performance. The SOMNIUM is fitted with Split Loops. This ensures a comfortable seating position and simultaneously improves the performance of the wing during glides – the tendency to roll is damped and this has a positive impact on your glide ratio, especially in turbulent air. The streamlined design and slender pod underline this performance potential.
Less weight. Small packing size, little weight: due to its Hybrid Protection, the SOMNIUM can be packed small and at 3.7kg (size S) is extraordinarily light – without compromising on passive safety. The foam protector can be highly compressed and apart from the material, the airbag packs down to nothing. The SOMNIUM offers the complete package of performance, safety and little weight.

The SOMNIUM is primarily aimed at pilots who demand performance. It offers a high degree of passive safety combined with little weight and excellent aerodynamic characteristics. The high level of comfort and the pod enhance the feeling of comfort in the air.
Features
Two technologies in one protector
Hybrid Protection combines the advantages of foam and airbag protection: little weight, small packing size and a high degree of passive safety. Harnesses with Hybrid Protection are generally designed so that foam is fitted under the seat, giving the pilot protection even before take off.
Once in the air, this protection is augmented with a thick cushion of air around the pilot’s back. The most effective aerodynamic shape was an important consideration in the design of the airbag. Hybrid Protection is particularly suitable for all-round and cross-country harnesses, which should be light and safe.
Rescue in sight
Always within sight and easy to deploy: front containers provide a high degree of safety – if only due to their visibility. This is one of the reasons we fit our harnesses (and in particular lightweight models) with front-mounted parachute containers.
Comfortable lightness
Harnesses without seat plates have now become a common alternative to ones with a seat plate. This is why we developed Split Loops: separate leg supports provide both comfort and excellent steering precision. Harnesses with split loops also have the advantage of being lightweight and pack extremely small. This emphasises our efforts to make paragliding as simple and uncomplicated as possible.
Size matters
Our S and L sizes are not just scaled copies of the M size. We take time to ensure that every size is designed with its appropriate geometry. As well as the width of the seat and the length of the webbing, the height of the carabiner hang points is one aspect which requires experience in positioning. The result is Tailor-made Geometry: every pilot has the optimal seat position – no more “off the peg” disproportional geometry!
Lightness & durability
Who likes to carry a heavy pack? Harnesses with the label Weight Optimised are light without compromising on durability or ease of use. This is achieved primarily through the use of light high quality materials as well as an intelligent tailoring of the fabric used.
The protector for your airbag
The scoop is critical for the rapid inflation of the airbag. When the harness is packed into the rucksack there is the risk that this scoop could be damaged. This has a negative impact on the airbag’s inflation – in an extreme case the airbag may not inflate and the pilot is left without back protection.
The Scoop Protector is a zip, which, when open, adapts to the shape of the scoop. The scoop is made from plastic which is susceptible to deformation. The Scoop Protector holds the plastic against the harness. It can then be safely stored in the rucksack. This means that the scoop and airbag are protected from the effects of transport, wear and tear.

Flying without the pod
The SOMNIUM can be flown without the pod. It can be removed with very little effort and replaced with a stirrup. This is a useful feature when flying in non-thermic conditions or ridge soaring.
