CP Power in Spain

We can run this trip more or less anytime so give us a call if you have some dates in mind and we will do our best to work around you.

After many years of teaching I have found that there are large gaps in students training in the UK due to the bad weather, so we have set up a base on the costa Almeria in southern Spain.

We specialize in small groups, so you get a more personalized experience when you learn to fly with us. Small groups of one two or three make your learning experience better as the instructor can spend time with you making sure you get the most out of your training

We include free accommodation in the course price so the only extras you will pay will be flights and food.

This course is aimed at a total beginner with no previous experience. This is an intensive 2 week course, and the quickest route to gaining your BHPA Club Pilot Power Licence. The BHPA is the governing body and they will issue the club pilot endorsment on your license upon completion of the course. The license will is also recognised many other places around the world. It is also a requirement should you want to enter competitions and attend fly in events in the future.

We will be based on the southern tip of the Costa Almeria region of Spain. The climate here gives good reliable weather with light sea breezes and sunshine all year round.  Our Club Pilot Power courses will be run over 2 weeks and will give you an introduction to the sport enabling you to come home with a Club Pilot licence enabling you to start flying without the need of an instructor present.

After the course you willhave the knowledge to choose the right equipment based on your weight, build and height.  You will be able to choose a suitable flying site and asses the area to make sure its free from turbulence and other potential hazards. Make a weather assessment on whether or not it will be safe to fly and also have an understanding of how the weather may change during your flight. You will learn how to check your equipment to make sure it is safe to fly and how to set it up and pack it away. How to safely take off, land and fly safely with other fellow pilots.

On arrival you will be collected from the airport and taken to our accommodation where you can unpack, settle in and prepare for day 1 of the course.

Here is a brief description of the course syllabus

Day 1: Introductions and paperwork, disclaimers, risk warnings and BHPA membership. Once this is out of the way we will focus on unpowered ground training. This will include an introduction to the airfield, canopy and equipment, parts and functions of the equipment.  Site assessment, weather assessment, daily inspections and pre-flight checks. After this we will start the ground training which will be flying the glider and controlling it to a reasonable level of competence on flat level ground. (This will take a few days so don’t expect to do it straight away).

Day 2: More ground training to include canopy inflation, correct use of the controls to control direction and make turns. Glide approach from 10-20ft, flare and landing the canopy, collapsing the canopy and moving it.  Theory lectures.

Day 3: Ground training, Introduction to the power unit (the paramotor) Safety, daily inspection, fuels, maintenance and repair and safe starting procedures.  More ground training and theory lectures.

Day 4: Power preparation. This starts with wearing the motor and running with no glider attached. You will feel the different forces under different throttle settings. We will then move onto ground training with the paramotor  and canopy attached engine not running making launch attempts to a stage of just before take-off,  This will prepare you for your first flights. (Some of you may fly the paramotor on the evening of day 4 depending on your level of ground control).

Day 5: Theory and lectures in the morning then more ground training and then hopefully if your ready you’re 1st powered flights in the eveninig.

Day 6: Ground training, multiple take offs and landings with local circuit flights

Day 7: More ground training, longer and higher flight up to 1500ft above take off flying out of circuit then re-joining, making controlled approaches and good landings.

Day 8: More theory related to powered flying and Sit the CP power exams

Days 9-13: Multiple flights per day focusing on takeoff and landings, landings within a designated area,

Day 14: Drop off at airport
